Alterra
From Sim World Wiki
Alterra is a mystical place, almost like a mirror image to ours, except for the continents and the nations. It has all features of our planet, including weather, wildlife, ice at the poles, and so on. Although Earth and Alterra have virtually identical climates and weather systems, Alterra is very slightly further away from its home star than Earth is from the Sun, which has a slight effect on the overall planetary temperature.

Origin of the name
The word Alterra combines the Latin "Alto", meaning other, with "Terra", which means Earth. The word was coined in 1620 by a Crestean named Thellamus Fide, and has been used ever since.
Other Names for Alterra
- "The Next World" was used by most people in our world, and was also used by western sailors from the 1400's to the late 1800's. It was a popular belief that Alterra was the place of those who had passed on, and that the portal had been opened to allow those from Earth to see and interact with the dead.
- "The Other Side" (or "El Otro Lado") refers to the fact that the portal between the two worlds travels across the galaxy, and when going through the portal, it was thought that the world tipped over, and became Alterra when you re-emerged. This expression was mostly used in the Caribbean and South America.
- "Terra Proxima", a latin expression, maening "Next World", and that is where that name came from. It was used by everyone who knew of Alterra up until other names began to take over in the early 1300's.
Travel between the Earths
Between Earth and Alterra, a collection of wormholes once existed, that allowed safe travel between these worlds, and during the age of New Alterra, these were all out to sea, or sometimes on the surfaces of lakes. Ships would sail through them almost instantaneously.

The Time Paradox
The Wormholes that existed between the two Earths bridged a time gap of 100 years exactly, so if we were to now travel to Alterra, it would be 100 years later. And if someone was to travel from Alterra to our Earth, they would go back 100 years. Luckily, the properties of this Wormhole means that if you were to travel to Alterra, stayed for 1 year for example, and go back to this world, you would return one year from when you left, not 101 years, since the Tim Paradox works both ways.
